Turin, the Royal Palace, the Egyptian Museum, and the Langhe Hills
Day 1: ROYAL PALACE OF VENARIA REALE
Arrival in Venaria Reale in the early afternoon.
Meeting with the guide and visit of the Royal Palace of the House of Savoy, a symbol of splendor, prestige, and magnificence with its recently restored rooms: the grand hall, the Diana Gallery, and the Church of St. Hubert. The tour of the Royal Palace is enriched by many evocative multimedia inserts designed by the famous director Peter Greenaway. A walk through the gardens follows. Transfer to Turin, check-in at the reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: ALBA AND THE LANGHE
Breakfast at the hotel, departure by bus.
Meeting with the guide and continuation to the scenic Langhe region with panoramic views over the spectacular hills: ancient castles and medieval towers surrounded by endless vineyards and fields. Stops will be made in the most significant villages, such as Barolo and La Morra, the famous “balcony” over the Langhe. Visit of the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, a majestic fortress dating back to the 13th century, where Count and statesman Camillo Benso lived for a long time, before turning it into a center of production of fine wines. Today, the castle houses the regional wine cellar of Piedmont.
Stop at a winery for a local wine tasting and at a workshop to taste the typical nougat.
Langhe-style lunch. In the afternoon, visit of Alba, a well-known town in the Langhe hills and capital of the region. Tour of the historic center with its towers and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: TURIN: EGYPTIAN MUSEUM AND HISTORICAL CENTER
Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide for a visit to the Egyptian Museum.
The Egyptian Museum in Turin, like the one in Cairo, is dedicated exclusively to the art and culture of Ancient Egypt and consists of a collection that has grown over time. Some of its most important pieces include the linen cloth from the Predynastic period (4300-3700 BC), the Tomb of Kha and Merit, the Royal Papyrus (1292-1186 BC), the diorite statue of Pharaoh Ramses II (1279-1213 BC), and the sandstone Sphinx found in Karnak.
Visit of the Risorgimento squares: Piazza Carignano and Piazza Carlo Alberto. Free lunch.
In the afternoon, guided tour of the city center: Piazza Castello, the historic heart of the city, surrounded by the “Savoy power” buildings such as the Royal Palace, Palazzo Madama, the Royal Chapel of St. Lorenzo, and the scenic Piazza San Carlo with its “twin churches” and historic cafes.
